On show this season at New York City’s Metropolitan Opera is La Traviata, a classic three-act composition about a famed courtesan named Violetta living in 19th-century Paris. Originally composed by Giuseppe Verdi, the Metropolitan Opera has reimagined it with Ermonela Jaho, Nadine Sierra, and Angel Blue playing the heroine.

Just a six minute drive or a 16 minute walk away from The Wallace, the Metropolitan Opera is one of the Upper West Side’s must-visit destinations.
Catch the New York Knicks on their home turf. This March, the team will be playing six home games, against the Brooklyn Nets (3/1), Charlotte Hornets (3/7), Denver Nuggets (3/18), Minnesota Timberwolves (3/20), Houston Rockets (3/27), and the Miami Heat (3/29). Madison Square Garden, home to the Knicks, is the oldest NBA arena in use, and one of the most iconic — so be sure to catch a game in the arena if you’re a fan.

The New York Knicks aren’t the only team in Madison Square Garden. The sports arena is also home to the New York Rangers, a hockey team currently third in the Metropolitan Division. This NHL team has seven home games in March, against the Ottawa Senators (3/2), Washington Capitals (3/14), Pittsburgh Penguins (3/16 and 3/18),Nashville Predators (3/19), Carolina Hurricanes (3/20), and Columbus Blue Jackets (3/28). If you like ice hockey, seeing a Rangers game is one of the best activities to do in March in New York City.

The oldest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the world, this New York City celebration dates back even further than the Declaration of Independence. Every year, on March 17th, about 15,000 parade participants travel from East 44th Street to East 79th Street, along Fifth Avenue. St. Patrick is the patron saint of the Archdiocese of New York, making this traditionally Irish holiday an important date in the city.

From March 26 to April 9, Macy’s Herald Square will be transformed into a whimsical floral extravaganza. This 48th annual show is sponsored by Dior, and includes installations throughout the ground floor, balconies, and windows of the flagship Macy’s location. Scented by Dior perfumes and designed by students at the Fashion Institute of Technology, this multi-sensory exhibit is a must-see.
Macy’s Herald Square is a 14 minute drive and a 45 minute walk from The Wallace. It’s worth the visit for the flower show and for the incredible shopping within.
